National Champion Assists Youngest Competitor

The youngest registered swimmer at the State King of the Bays event on Saturday was Florentine Bus from Auckland who has only just turned six. She took part in the State Oceankids 200m swim.

Just as the starting gun was about to fire the youngster started to have second thoughts but luckily Cara Baker, current NZ Open water Champion for the 5km and 10km and runner up in the Elite Series this year, was on hand and swam with Florentine to ensure she achieved her goal of crossing that finish line.

Florentine’s Dad, Tony Bus says;”Florentine was very nervous so it was great that Cara literally took her under her wing.”

Cara Baker says;”It’s great to see so many kids getting involved and being given the opportunity to pick up lifelong skills. I am pleased to lend a hand in such a well organised event.”
