Do I have to wear a wetsuit? Can I hire a wetsuit?
Wetsuits: Your Swim Buddy in the Ocean!
Thinking of diving into an ocean swim? A wetsuit can quickly become your best friend! Not only do wetsuits offer protection from the elements, but they also provide essential buoyancy. This added buoyancy helps you float better, saving your energy so you can swim faster, further, and with a bigger smile. Best of all, wetsuits are completely optional at our swim events—but we highly recommend giving one a try!
Choosing the Right Wetsuit – Let’s Dive into the Basics!
Swim Wetsuit vs. Surf Wetsuit – What’s the Difference?
Pro Tip: A good swim wetsuit fits like a snug hug—not loose! Expect to spend at least 3–5 minutes putting it on carefully, inching it up your legs, body, and arms.
Practice Makes Perfect!
Don’t wait until event day to test your wetsuit. Take it out for a swim in the ocean beforehand. You’ll quickly get used to the unique feeling, giving you a confidence boost on the big day.
Say Goodbye to Chafing!
Apply some skin-friendly lube around areas that tend to rub—usually your neck and shoulders. Trust us; your future self will thank you! Stay away from petroleum based products such as vaseline as these will void your warranty and damage your wetsuit over time.
Wetsuit Hire – Try Before You Dive!
Not ready to buy just yet? Hiring a wetsuit is an ideal solution. It allows you to experience ocean swimming comfortably without committing immediately.
Our partner at The Swim Shop in Mt Eden is where you can get professionally fitted, ensuring your wetsuit fits perfectly.
Picking it up early lets you test and adjust before the event, eliminating last-minute surprises!

We've got you covered, ensuring your start wave suits your swimming style. Enjoy the swim!
