Harcourts Cooper & Co Swim the Shore – 2020 Event Report

Harcourts Cooper & Co Swim the Shore – 2020 Event Report

HARCOURTS COOPER & CO SWIM THE SHORE – FOSSIE TAKES OVERALL WIN, AGAIN!

The Banana Boat New Zealand Ocean Swim Series officially launched the 2021 Series with a fantastic turn out of old hands and newcomers alike – gladly putting the trials we all endured this year firmly to bed. What a day!

The sun was out and the wind blew favourably from the south-west providing us with a smooth swim with a slight push from behind – perfect conditions!

The young guns simply weren’t fast enough on the day to beat the well-known veteran of the sport Brent Foster, who comfortably took the lead and finished a clear 20 seconds ahead of teenagers Oxford Bayley and Alex Dunkley.

The winning time? 47:34! Very impressive performance Brent – racing in the M50-54 age category and still winning! What will it take to beat him?

Teenager Abbey Smale (2nd from right) made her intentions clear to take the women’s win by 3 minutes in 49:28 – as last year’s series champion, there is no doubt she is still the one to beat. Suburb effort Abbey!

Ironman champion Teressa Adams proved that even in her 30’s, she can compete with the juniors taking second place over a minute ahead of yet another teenager, Ella Crowe.

It is so exciting to see this sport attracting people of all ages and abilities – take a look at the highlights of the day – these images will inspire you to dive head first into 2021 with new purpose and positivity.

And why wouldn’t we?

New Zealand is the best place to be right now, and the Banana Boat New Zealand Ocean Swim Series is a great reason to see the country.

On behalf of the team at the Banana Boat Ocean Swim Series I hope you are able to take a break, walk barefoot under the pohutukawas, crank up the barbie, and enjoy being kiwis.

We wish you a Happy Christmas ???? and are thrilled to be starting the year off on 31 January at the Interislander Swim the Lighthouse.

If you’re up for that, why not continue from there for the ultimate kiwi summer swimming roadie; explore the South Island and attend The Generation Homes La Grande Swim in the picturesque French seaside village of Akoroa.

Now, that’s a GREAT idea. Got you thinking!
