Check out Hayley’s reasons for swimming below!
How long have you been swimming? | I started with lessons in the pool at 3 years old and did my fiorst pool competition at 7 years old. At 8 years old I won my age group at the Ocean Swim Series King of the Bays in Takapuna and qualified for the Jetstar Kids Camp. This is where I really started ocean swimming. |
Whats your favourite event in the series? | It’s definitely The Mount Swim! |
Why that one? | At the Mount no two days or swims are ever the same! Its a beautiful location and the surf adds an extra challenge. I also love The Mount Swim as I get to finish the day with The Amphibian and run along the beach and round Mauao. Its awesome |
Why do you take part in the Swimming NZ Secondary Schools Zonals at The Mount? | I attend Waikato Diocesan School For Girls and it is a great opportunity to represent my school. And of course another chance to earn myself some bling! |
What is your favourite thing about swimming? | The best thing about open water swimming is getting to travel round to beautiful beaches to swim. I also get to keep fit while meeting loads of awesome new people who love the ocean as much as I do |
If you had ONE PIECE of advice for a new ocean swimmer - what would it be? | It would definitely be learn to breathe on BOTH sides. This is really important at The Mount as the waves just keep coming without a break! |
