Hot Spring Spas Iceberg Winter Swim – 2021 Event Report

Hot Spring Spas Iceberg Winter Swim – 2021 Event Report

ceberg Winter swim post event report

Well, we couldn’t have asked for a better day for the inaugural Hot Spring Spas Iceberg Winter Swim!

Waking up to a frost, and 4c, the event really lived up to its name. However the sun made an appearance, giving us  a beautiful crisp and clear winter’s day.

Over 1,100 swimmers took to the water throughout the course of the day, from the awesome costumes associated with the fancy dress Ice Splash, to the 2km swim from Little Oneroa round to Oneroa Main beach.

Lots of boats moored in the bay made navigation around the course tricky for some, but everyone made it back to shore and had a great time!

The Hot Spring Spas lining the beach were a great addition and helped the swimmers all warm up after their cold swim.

A video of the event will be uploaded shortly.

The evergreen Brent Foster (52 years young) cruised round the bay taking out first place in 23:05, closely followed by former Olympian Steve Kent in 23:39.

Ella Crowe crossed the finish line first for the females in 25:28, closely followed by Sally Mcmath in 25:45.

Edge radio Host Dom Harvey smashed his goal of competing in his first ocean swim, swimming with his coach Dean Kent. Dom finishing a very respectable 6th place overall in the 250m event.

Event Director Scott Rice was stoked with the day , “Introducing a new event, in the middle of winter is risky. But I want to thank the weather gods for playing ball and giving us such a bluebird day.

I am also grateful to the 1,100+ swimmers that made the day such a success. I loved the atmosphere and the Waiheke Island vibe, we will be back!”
